Fire

          God Loves You

I just finished a book by Max Lucado called "No Wonder They Call Him the Savior". I highly recommend it. In the last chapter he writes about the apostles and asks what it would take to light a fire.

God uses the most peculiar things to get our attention. Burning bushes that do not burn, donkeys that talk, angles, visions, floods, earthquakes, famine, dreams, swallowed up by whales, bondage, plague, fire, fleeces, love... Amazing how when times get tough we tend to cry out to God. Throughout time people have either cried out to God or cursed Him, but He has never been totally ignored.

Who is God? What are the facts exactly? When they really put God on trial a lot of intelligent men have turned their lives over to Him. For almost seven years I have been seeking startling proofs, real revelations, astounding facts, so that I can share them with others to increase their faith. In the process I have only convinced myself of the truth of the Bible and the existence of God. In a day and age where there are no absolutes God is a refreshingly fresh air "Breath of Truth".

What would make the apostles, shaking in their sandals, hiding in an upper room one day, decide the next to go out and give their lives for Jesus? Amazing!

So what puts us on the hot seat? What sends our flames roaring? What does it take to set one on fire for God? The illness of a close friend? How many aquatints do we have that have no clue we have Jesus? My husband and I lived together for over ten years before I discovered he had not really known Jesus. Perhaps a near brush with death to wake us up to the reality that it may be a good idea to check out eternity.

What if one day you walk out your back door and you see a dark sky the clouds like bloody fingers traced around a sun the color of sack cloth. You hear voices crying out in terror. In an instant you realize you have missed the rapture and are halfway through the tribulation. How many will be left behind to face a world tilted on its axis, its seasons out of whack, and the water turned to blood. You won't be here; I won't be here, who will tell them what is really happening? The anti-christ. A people lost confused searching for answers, would easily believe a lie. Maybe a dream about a place found only in dreams where life is serene and all things are perfect. No death no tears, and upon awakening it follows you in the back of your mind, that one day you will actually live in heaven.

Maybe a picture show, not latter when it is too late, but now when we're alive. A fast paced instantaneous life revealing movie. In a flash you realize how hopeless you really are, how little you've done with your life, how retched and sinful your past has been. While you are standing in stark horror naked before the consuming cavern of hell you ask yourself a simple question "How can God ever forgive me?" As your throat tightens and the tears well up in your eyes you call on the only Name that can save you "Jesus". And instantly you are surrounded by a love that you have never known before. A love that has no boundaries, no ifs ands or buts, a love that consumes your heart and soul and being and you realize that the love you now feel is extended to every single soul on earth believing or unbelieving. This love consumes your conscious and every time you gossip or think ill of others it caresses you in a cry of pain. Because you realize in His eyes you can do no wrong so you buckle down determined to do better because you want the world to see the love that you have seen shine through you so that all will want to accept His love.

Perhaps a nightmare the kind where you wake up in a cold sweat to afraid to move or breath you finally get up the courage to reach over to the other side of the bed- your spouse is not there. You are terrified. Is it true? Did the rapture really happen? Are you left behind? What of those who will someday be left behind? Can you imagine your best friend facing the unknown?

We wonder why we suffer, why our lives are filled with pit holes and everything we always wanted is just beyond our grasp. Do we really know what we really want?

Have we really given God a chance? Anyone who has given God half a chance will feel the match ignite and a fire begin to flame. Now the only question remaining is do we sit sputtering on the back burner or do we spread like a wild fire out of control?

Words cannot make a fire. But God is not asleep, dead, or non-existent. He tends to seek us out no matter how we try to hide. He is good at shaking up the world. He is certainly capable to use all of the above if needed to set us ablaze.
