BIBLE PROPHESY
When one thinks of fortunetellers, they conjure up women in long skirts in carnival tents who look into crystal balls and read palms. Today we can find them in the newspaper under the Jean Dixon column or call 1-900-psychic. Sometimes these people came up with remarkable predictions. But are only correct about 60% of the time.
Just as God used prophets in the Bible to tell us and Israel of future events Satan also sends messages to anyone who will listen to him. Unfortunately, messages from Satan fail to be consistently accurate and do not draw people closer to the knowledge of Jesus and the truth of His love and grace.
God warns many times of false prophets, wizards, witches, mediums' etc in the Bible. He tells us they are an abomination to Him. (Lev 19:31 Deut 18:10-12 Is 8:19-22) God wants to be certain us and the people of Moses time know his prophets so we do not confuse them with Satans prophets. In Deuteronomy 18:20-22 he says not to be afraid of prophets who say things that do not happen because that person was not sent of God. It also says, "even that prophet shall die."
I find this very comforting in the light of today's many forecasters of doom and gloom. I find great comfort in that for those of us, who know, Jesus there is no such gloom and doom forecasted by the true prophets of God found in the Bible. In Deut. 18:22 it says if what a prophet claims does not happen, this person is not a prophet of God. This clearly tells us that Gods prophets are 100% accurate all of the time!
In the Bible to date about 2500 prophecies are found, 2000 of which have already come to pass and have been 100% accurate. The remaining 500 have yet to be fulfilled in the future. What are some of the Bibles predictions that have come to pass and the odds of their being 100% accurate as predicted?
500 BC Daniel predicted Jesus ministry, and his death, he also said Jerusalem would fall. This all has come to pass when Jerusalem fell in 70 AD. Odds 1 in 100,000.
700 BC Micah 5:2 Said that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. Fulfilled Luke 2:4. Odds 1 in 100,000.
5th century BC Zechariah 11:12,13 wrote that Jesus would be betrayed for the price of a slave-30 pieces of silver, and the money would be used to bury poor foreigners. Fulfilled Matt 27:3-10. Odds 1 in 100,000,000,000.
Moses, added to by Jeremiah and Jesus, foretold the Jewish Nation would be conquered twice, the people would be carried off as slaves both times. Babylonians 607 BC, Rome 70 AD these prophecies were fulfilled, Furthermore the Jews would be scattered for many generations, and then return to re-establish their nation. (Deut 29 Is 11:11-13 Jer 25:11 Hosea 3:4,5 Luke 21:23-24) This prediction is now filled in our time 1948 after 3500 years! Odds 1 in 100,000,000,000, 000,000,000.
